The 'Wishing Star Shawl' is Helen's contribution and an EXCLUSIVE new Curious Handmade design, available as part of our Knit for the Girls 2024 bundles.
We think it's a perfect match for this year's speckled fundraiser colourway and can honestly say it is an enjoyable, easy and fun knit!
So a little about Helen's inspiration for the 'Wishing Star Shawl:
“Star light, star bright…”
Some ancient tales claim that stars are portholes in the heavens, from which the divine powers-that-be can peek down at us and hear our heartfelt petitions. Other stories tell of cherished ancestors who hitch rides on shooting stars for their return visits to earth, sprinkling help and comfort in their wake.
All the myths and legends about what happens when you wish upon a star point to the same beautiful truth: the universe is infinitely larger (and stranger) than we can ever understand. If a beam of light can travel through time and across trillions of years to meet us here on earth, then anything is possible. Stars dare us to dream bigger. To hold onto hope and imagine a different world. To be brave enough to say exactly what we want, out loud.
The Wishing Star Shawl is a gentle, absorbing project, designed for a single skein of fingering weight yarn. Knit a wish—for yourself or someone dear— into every star stitch scattered across the stockinette sky of this simple crescent shawl, and finish it all off with a comforting garter-stitch border and a sweet picot bind-off.
The pattern is available exclusively as a part of the Knit for the Girls fundraiser bundle until they sell out (which is usually pretty fast!)
