We are thrilled to once again bring you #loveloKAL & #loveloCAL, a year-long make-along where we will be celebrating our down-under designers, yarn producers, dyers and local yarn shops.
#loveloKAL & #loveloCAL is being hosted by Gayann Walker of the Fibremates Youtube Channel and Karina Moore of Louie & Lola Yarns.
It is open to both knitters and crocheters.
To enter the make-along:
BONUS MONTHLY THEMES FOR 2025:
a. January – t-shirts and tanks to celebrate summer in the southern hemisphere
b. February – Ambah O’Brien. A few weeks ago, Ambah gave away patterns in her Love collection and I know many of us took advantage to scoop some patterns so we can have an Ambalong!
c. March – a surprise
d. April – Lace – perfect for beautiful frilly Easter projects
e. May – Marling – I love alliteration so we will do Marling in May. If you aren’t familiar with marling, it is using two different yarns, either of a similar colour or different colours to make a third colour.
f. June – sweaters – because its cold in the southern hemisphere then
g. July – use a yarn you purchased at the Australian Sheep and Wool shop (from stash or a new acquisition)
h. August – farm fibre – a yarn that is sold straight from the farm
i. September – speckles
j. October – two themes - Pink! Because it will be Knit for the Girls (Karina to explain KFTGs) And also, bonus entry if you knit your Stephen West MKAL with an Aussie or NZ yarn
k. November - Socks – we love sock knitting, and socks are a great small project to pick up when the weather gets warm
l. December – Advents and accessories – so either use an advent set or create your own from scraps to work a little bit on a project each day, or knit up an accessory – great for gift knitting or Knitvent, by our own National treasure, Helen Stewart
If you choose to follow the bonus themes each month, you can post your project for a second bonus entry into the respective Monthly Prize Draw.

In the case of Susanna Kaartinen, the answer is that she found inspiration in the vast, rugged and beautiful landscapes and wilderness of our island state.
And within weeks, concepts for a Sanna & Co. Tasmanian inspired knitwear pattern collection was born.

If you’ve ever wondered why two yarns of the identical weight and fibre composition can feel and behave entirely differently on your needles or hooks, the answer usually comes down to the fibre preparation method used: woollen versus worsted.
Understanding the difference is like knowing the secret personality of your yarn—and it’s the key to matching the right base to your dream project. Let's break it down together!
