Let's celebrate our down under designers & yarnies in 2025

Let's celebrate our down under designers & yarnies in 2025

Home   News from the Dye Pots   Let's celebrate our down under designers & yarnies in 2025

January 04, 2025

We are thrilled to once again bring you #loveloKAL & #loveloCAL, a year-long make-along where we will be celebrating our down-under designers, yarn producers, dyers and local yarn shops.

#loveloKAL & #loveloCAL is being hosted by Gayann Walker of the Fibremates Youtube Channel and Karina Moore of Louie & Lola Yarns.

It is open to both knitters and crocheters.

To enter the make-along:

  • Your project must feature BOTH an Australian or New Zealand yarn AND ALSO be a design by an Australian or New Zealand knitwear or crochet designer.
  • The projects must be knit or crocheted in either: a) an Australian or New Zealand made yarn, or b) dyed by an Australian or New Zealand indie dyer, or c) purchased form a local yarn store in Australia or New Zealand.
  • To enter the make-along post a photo of your Finished Object (FO) in the respective monthly #loveloKAL / #loveloCAL FO thread in the Louie & Lola Ravelry group, mentioning the designer and yarn used in the completed project.
  • You can participate via the Louie & Lola Yarns Ravelry Group, or on Instagram, by tagging #loveloKAL or #loveloCAL and also @fibremates and @louielolayarns.
  • To be eligible for a monthly prize draw you must finish your project within that calendar month.
  • Existing WIP’s are allowed, but to be eligible for the monthly prize draws, the projects need to have been completed.
  • Each month we will have a special theme. If your project follows the month’s chosen theme, you can enter your project an additional time in the thread, for another bonus entry.
  • There will be both monthly and grand prizes.
  • If your project features Louie & Lola Yarns, you can post your project an additional time in the thread, for a bonus entry.
  • Feel free to double dip in other KAL’s or CAL’s.

      BONUS MONTHLY THEMES FOR 2025:

      a. January – t-shirts and tanks to celebrate summer in the southern hemisphere
      b. February – Ambah O’Brien. A few weeks ago, Ambah gave away patterns in her Love collection and I know many of us took advantage to scoop some patterns so we can have an Ambalong!
      c. March – a surprise
      d. April – Lace – perfect for beautiful frilly Easter projects
      e. May – Marling – I love alliteration so we will do Marling in May. If you aren’t familiar with marling, it is using two different yarns, either of a similar colour or different colours to make a third colour.
      f. June – sweaters – because its cold in the southern hemisphere then
      g. July – use a yarn you purchased at the Australian Sheep and Wool shop (from stash or a new acquisition)
      h. August – farm fibre – a yarn that is sold straight from the farm
      i. September – speckles
      j. October – two themes - Pink! Because it will be Knit for the Girls (Karina to explain KFTGs) And also, bonus entry if you knit your Stephen West MKAL with an Aussie or NZ yarn
      k. November - Socks – we love sock knitting, and socks are a great small project to pick up when the weather gets warm
      l. December – Advents and accessories – so either use an advent set or create your own from scraps to work a little bit on a project each day, or knit up an accessory – great for gift knitting or Knitvent, by our own National treasure, Helen Stewart

If you choose to follow the bonus themes each month, you can post your project for a second bonus entry into the respective Monthly Prize Draw.

      MONTHLY PRIZES

We will announce details of each monthly prize at the beginning of each month.

If you are a yarn producer, dyer, designer or LYS and would like to sponsor a monthly prize, we would love to hear from you. Simply drop us an email to hello@louieandlolayarns.com.au.

      GRAND PRIZE

There will be a grand prize draw at the end of 2025, which will be drawn from all monthly FO threads. The prize details will be announced during 2025.

Thank you so much for knitting & crocheting along with us each month. We are super excited to see your projects and discovering some new Australian and New Zealand yarns and patterns.
