About the Lyrebird Cardigan

The Lyrebird Cardigan represents everything Marzena values in modern romanticism - a timeless cut, fashionable details and charming and sophisticated lace that makes a sensitive-to-beauty heart beat faster.  It's an everyday sweater and art in one.  Lyrebird was named after one of the most extraordinary Australian birds.

Lyrebird is a romantic cardigan with dropped shoulders, comfy crew neck, double layered collar, double knitted plackets and straight sleeves that provides bell-like look around the wrists.  The cardigan is fully made with intricate lace patterns and the collar and the hem are finished with 1x1 rib.  It is worked top-down and completely seamlessly.

Yarn Base Info

SRS MERINO ALPACA FINGERING (LIMITED EDITION BASE)

Weight: Fingering / 4 ply
Fibre: 60% Australian Non Mulesed Merino / 40% Alpaca
Meterage:  340m / weight 100gm (approx.)
Gauge: 24-28sts to 10cm using 3.25mm - 3.75mm needles.
Characteristics: This worsted spun 4 ply construction yarn is ultra soft & smooth  with a beautiful shine. The knitted fabric is drapey without being floppy, so that all the lovely benefits of Alpaca fibre may be enjoyed supported with the structure and bounce of Merino.  Produced by Kirchelly Textiles, this single origin, non-super wash yarn is a new type of Merino. SRS (Soft Rolling Skin) Merino are bred to be non-wrinkled and plain bodied, making them naturally resistant to fly-strike and thus removing the need for mulesing in these flocks, resulting in better welfare. This trait also means that the shearer can clip closer to the body, and less frequently, resulting in longer fibres and over generations is projected to result in finer fibres.
Use: Works beautifully for mid weight garments and accessories such as sweaters, cowls, mitts, beanies and shawls.
Care: Gentle hand wash and dry flat in shade as this is a non superwash yarn.

SURI SILK LACE

Characteristics: Adds a super soft halo to projects whilst also adding incredible warmth.
Use: Perfect for holding double or being used in conjunction with other yarns to create a special effect.
Care: Gentle hand wash and dry flat in shade as this is a non superwash yarn.

Working with Hand Dyed Yarns

Hand-dyed in small batches in Tasmania.

The beauty and nature of hand dyed yarn is that every skein is unique and individual. Even within the same dye batch variations between skeins can occur.

We therefore recommend alternating skeins within your projects to ensure an optimal finish and colour blending.

Please also ensure you buy enough yarn for your project at the time of purchase, as colours can vary between dye batches.

Our yarns come twisted in a skein and will need to be wound into a cake before knitting. You can do that yourself or have it done by us using our Cake Your Yarn service.

Care Instructions

Hand wash only as this kit features non-superwash yarn.

Our hand dyed yarns have been washed to remove excess dye, however some residual dye may remain, particularly in dark and saturated colourways.

It is recommended to gently hand wash your hand dyed projects in cold water.

Wool wash or a mild detergent may be used.

We recommend blocking and drying garments flat and not tumble drying.
