We are pleased to offer Louie & Lola Sol Shawl MKAL Kits for Ambah O'Brien’s 2026 annual Solstice KAL!
This year Ambah's KAL features the Sol Shawl MKAL, a mystery knit-along where the design unfolds over three weekly clues. You can choose between DK or fingering weight yarn, offering plenty of opportunities to experiment with color.
When designing this piece, Ambah imagined sitting by a fire - perhaps a Summer campfire in the Northern Hemisphere or a cosy hearth during the Southern Hemisphere winter - with an engaging knitting project to savor. The resulting shawl is versatile for any season, whether worn around the shoulders or as a kerchief on your next adventure.
Join the fun in the dedicated MKAL threads here in Ambah’s Ravelry group and via #SOLshawlMKAL2026 and in the Pre-MKAL chat here.
You can purchase the Sol Shawl MKAL pattern in Ambah's Ravelry store here.

MERINO SILK YAK FINGERING (4 PLY)
Fibre Content: 60% Superwash Merino / 20% Silk / 20% Yak.
Meterage: 366 metres / 400 yards per 100g.
Gauge & Needles: 27-32sts to 10cm using 2.5mm - 3mm needles.
Characteristics: Luxuriously silky and drapey, with good twist and a stunning natural grey-brown base colour due to the yak content.
Use: Perfect for shawls and other delicate garments.
Hand-dyed in small batches in Tasmania.
The beauty and nature of hand dyed yarn is that every skein is unique and individual. Even within the same dye batch variations between skeins can occur.
We therefore recommend alternating skeins within your projects to ensure an optimal finish and colour blending.
Please also ensure you buy enough yarn for your project at the time of purchase, as colours can vary between dye batches.
Our yarns come twisted in a skein and will need to be wound into a cake before knitting. You can do that yourself or have it done by us using our Cake Your Yarn service.
Although spun using a superwash merino the yak fibres are very short and this yarn would felt if washed in a machine so we recommend treating it as you would a non- superwash yarn.
Our hand dyed yarns have been washed to remove excess dye, however some residual dye may remain, particularly in dark and saturated colourways.
It is recommended to gently hand wash your hand dyed projects in cold water.
Wool wash or a mild detergent may be used.
We recommend blocking and drying garments flat in shade and not tumble drying.
