We are pleased to offer shawl knitting kits for the The Stillness Shawl, which was the Curious Handmade 2020 Mystery Knitalong (MKAL) pattern.
All kits feature a copy of the pattern and our gorgeous Merino Silk Yak Fingering yarn, which is the same yarn base Helen Stewart used for the design.

Kits will be dyed-to-order and will ship within 7-10 days.

Even when it feels as if life is at a standstill, there is endless beauty to be found, and countless lessons to be learned. One of the most beautiful ways to immerse yourself in this truth is to spend a little time looking at still-life paintings. Over the centuries, artists have turned their eyes and brushes to tumbling bouquets of flowers and heaped platters of fruit and game. Baskets and bowls, vegetables and old boots, candlesticks and unstrung lutes. Tables filled with ordinary, everyday inanimate objects. Anything, in fact, that will hold perfectly still.

Still-life has another name: the “study.” And that’s what it is: a chance to study your world in exquisite detail. Slow down, take your time. Observe. Learn. It’s an opportunity to go deep. As knitters, we know something about this. When you lose yourself in making, your world shrinks to what’s right in front of you, and that can be a gift. Tiny things take on gorgeous significance. The mundane is transformed
into something precious. Something to treasure.

The Stillness Shawl is a semi-circular half-pi shawl. It was designed for three colours and reflects the contemporary romantic style Curious Handmade shawls are known for. Stretches of relaxing, satisfying texture and touches of easy to memorise lace: while it looks intricate and impressive, there is nothing too tricky. The pattern is approachable for adventurous beginners but interesting enough to delight veteran shawl knitters.

The finished dimensions of the shawl are:

  • 152cm diameter across top edge
  • 76cm from the neck to bottom edge

You will need a 4mm, 100cm long circular knitting needle.  These are available in our shop here.

If you are new to Curious Handmade knitting patterns you are in for a real treat! Helen's stunning designs and her super-friendly Percentage Checklist System make knitting an absolute delight.  You can find more Curious Handmade patterns at www.curioushandmade.com.

Each kit includes three (3) different colourways of Louie & Lola Merino Silk Yak Fingering, enough to make The Stillness Shawl, together with a Ravelry download code for the knitting pattern.

If you would instead prefer to receive a printed copy of the pattern rather than a Ravelry download code, please email us at hello@louieandlolayarns.com.au

The yarn is luxuriously silky and drapey, with good twist and a stunning natural grey-brown base colour/undertone due to the yak content.

Each skein has a meterage of 366m / 100gm per skein and is comprised of 60% Superwash Merino, 20% Silk, 20% Yak.

All yarns are hand dyed in small batches using professional quality acid dyes and heat set to ensure colours that will last.

Every effort has been made to remove any excess dye from the yarn, however a little may remain, particularly with dark and rich colours.  It is therefore recommended to gently hand wash your hand dyed projects on their own, in cold water, with wool wash or a mild detergent.
